Dr. Cheryl Wilhoyte, principal

Cheryl Wilhoyte holds a B.S., M.Ed., and Ph.D. from the University of MD-College Park, as well as certification in special education from George Washington University and in business administration from Georgetown University. She has served as the superintendent of schools for Madison, Wisconsin; executive vice president for Edison Schools; and the project director for the Maryland Governor’s Commission on School Performance. Most recently, she was a performance coach for the Harvard Graduate Schools of Business, Education, and Government, helping to boost student performance in Ohio and Massachusetts, and Dorchester County, Maryland.

Denise Diggs , Administrative Officer

Denise Diggs previously served as the school’s PTA president.  She is also a Brent parent and volunteer extraordinaire.  Currently, Denise works as Brent’s Administrative Officer. Denise serves as the Registrar for the enrollment. She conducts tours and meets with prospective parents. Denise, a Princeton grad who majored in Sociology with a minor in African American Studies, most recently worked in health-care policy.  She coordinates special projects, like a visit to the Library of Congress with the First Lady, and she will be coordinating the data, program, facility, budget and staffing analysis and management regarding our charge from the Chancellor for a rigorous “Brent brand” middle school for our graduates.

Jocelyn Collela,  business manager

Jocelyn Linde Colella holds a bachelor of arts degree from Syracuse University and has been Brent’s Everybody Wins Coordinator for the past three years, which matches up students with mentors over lunch once a week to read. She serves as the school’s partnership consultant and also works on enrichment programming for aftercare. A 5th generation D.C. resident, Ms. Colella lives with her two kids, Luke and Sydney, and her dog Lucky and is an avid horseback rider and skier. “I chose to stay at Brent because of my affection for the school, staff and students,” she says.

Our office is managed by both office staff and volunteers. Ours will greet you with a smile.

There are many people who support Brent by keeping it clean, working and safe.
