Stephanie Basralian, art

Stephanie Basralian who is starting her second year at Brent, earned her B.F.A. in visual art from Rutgers University and her art education certification from the School of Visual Arts. She taught art for three years in Bergen County, N.J., before beginning a seven-year career in New York as a prop stylist for magazines-including Real Simple, The Oprah Magazine, and Parenting. Ms. Basralian was drawn to Brent by its unique museum magnet program and strong support of the arts.  Now settled in D.C. with her husband, Ms. Basralian is happy to be living and teaching within the same community. She believes in empowering children through art education by building their self-esteem through independent thinking and self-expression. With projects that integrate art history and classroom curriculum, Ms. Basralian’s hope is that students will make meaningful connections between the world, the art world, and their own creation of art. As an artist, her own work focuses on drawing and ceramic sculpture, and she has exhibited in Washington, D.C., and New York City.
