Alyson McGonagle comes to Brent from Boston, where she grew up in South Boston, earned her bachelor’s of science degree in urban affairs at Boston University and her master’s of education in elementary education at the University of Massachusetts Boston. An active runner, Ms. McGonagle ran the 2009 Boston Marathon to raise money for the South Boston Boys & Girls Club, which she attended in her youth. She loves traveling. “Seeing every inch of the planet is a goal of mine,” she says. After college, she lived in London for four months. “I found a job and a flat and spent my days walking around a beautiful city with amazing museums and culture.” She then headed over to Sydney, Australia, to do the same thing. “My favorite claim is staying on a small island in Fiji,” she says. “You could walk around the entire island in 15 minutes and spend the entire trip without shoes on!” She was attracted to Brent for its hands-on museum-based instruction and learning, and its focus on using the Workshop model to reach individual students’ needs academically alongside using the Responsive Classroom techniques to ensure a healthy learning environment. “Brent provides great opportunities for all of its students to succeed,” she says.
