Green Team

Welcome to the Brent Schoolyard Green Team!!

Our focus is primarily greening and maintaining the outdoor spaces of Brent.  Through grants past projects have included:

  • Securing and installing the structures and plants for our Outdoor Classroom ($25,000)
  • Planning and helping to implement our new $250K playground surface and equipment
  • Ensuring the execution of a long-standing DDOE grant to install the beautiful $250K Rain Garden on the playground [see pictures of 2009 installation]
  • Facilitating the beautifully designed front lawn, seating area, and brick walkway in the front of the school.

Healthy Schools/Let’s Move campaign

The Green Team also spearheads and supports the Healthy Schools/Let’s Move campaign to get all our students outside as much as possible and eating healthy.  The latest project is winning a Whole Foods grant for a new $2500 salad bar for our students.   Along with that, Brent is the proud recipient of a $2000 Chef Kit through the Michelle Obama Let’s Move Campaign, to provide a venue for chef demos with our partner chefs, Michael Bonk of Sonoma and Matt Hill of Charlie Palmer Steak.

We have also installed a Woolly School Garden on the PreK playground fence and the cooling tower in the Spring of 2011, thanks to donations from generous parents.  Students were able to harvest lettuce for Chef Bonk to use during one of his chef demos:  a huge hit!
